The government chief whip in Aweil State, Kuac Wek Wol resigned on Wednesday in protest over election of a new parliamentary speaker.

The government chief whip in Aweil State, Kuac Wek Wol resigned on Wednesday in protest over election of a new parliamentary speaker.

Kuach Wek Wol told Radio Tamazuj that he resigned due to what he termed “poor management” in the state assembly and the SPLM party.

The lawmaker pointed out that the procedures followed by the parliament to elect a new speaker were illegal.

He argued that the process was supposed to done after wider consultations in the SPLM party.

For his part, Benson Upouthmalou, the new Aweil state speaker said his election was by simple majority of the members. He stated that the MP who was gains the procedure has no room for complaint.
