Aweil: Football player slapped with 1-year ban over double contract

The Aweil Football Association in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State on Thursday announced the suspension of football player Manhiak Majak because of signing contracts with two different soccer clubs.

The Aweil Football Association in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State on Thursday announced the suspension of football player Manhiak Majak because of signing contracts with two different soccer clubs.

The association’s press officer, Akuei Deng Bak, told Radio Tamazuj that the suspended player earlier signed a contract with the Wanyjok-based Rome FC for four years, and he later signed another contract with Zalzal FC in Aweil Town.

“A player called Manhiak Majak has been signed to Roma FC in Wanyjok, Aweil East County, and he again signed another contract with Zalzal FC in Aweil Town. So, Roma FC opened a case against the player at the local football association and after we investigated, we found that he was contracted by Rome FC, and his contract has not yet elapsed,” Akuei said. “The law prohibits a player to be contracted by two football clubs at the same time. We retransferred   him to Rome FC, and we suspended him from all sports activities for one year.”

The Zalzal FC secretary, Abraham Agoth, condemned the ruling of the local football association and said they signed the player as a free agent.

“The player is ours and he signed as a free agent without any club,” he said. “When we signed the contract with him, he told us that he wanted to further his studies, so we took him to school, accommodated and fed him, and he signed a four-year contract with us.”

Agoth revealed that their player was hijacked from them through the power of money, saying that a lot of money was paid to the player because he is a rising star.

Rome FC officials were not available for comment.
