An elderly woman has died after being hit by an iron sheet at Wanyjok roundabout of Kanajak village during a rainstorm on Sunday that blew an iron sheet off a store roof.

Returnees’ chief Deng Wol confirmed that some people including his wife have also sustained minor injuries as the rainstorm devastated the local made structures in the area.

“This old woman was sheltering in a local thatch structure (rakuba) before the rain damaged it and she tried to run to a nearby tukul but unfortunately she was caught up by an iron sheet that cut her neck and she died on spot,” he explained in an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Monday.

He said that the rain has devastated the area and many people sustained injuries. The chief added that many people are now sheltered with their neighbours and called on humanitarian NGOs and local authorities to assess the damages and rescue the situation of the returnees and the host community.
