Police in Aweil East are investigating the death of a child after the body of a boy was found in a pool of water in Abiemon on Monday. The mother of the child is a suspect in the case.

The local police officer of Aweil East County, Agany Akol Wol explained that the accused woman was brought to his office for investigation after suspicions that that she killed her son aged 8 years. During questioning, she replied that she could not have been capable of killing her own child even if he were undisciplined. She stated that her four children were fathered by different men because her husband had become mentally ill. Because she had no capacity to feed her children, they separated from her to the streets for survival, according to the police officer.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the accused woman denied killing her child. “My child was away from my house for a long period of time and they came to me with different behaviors. Okay, at the evening time, my children stayed with me until midnight then to bed for sleeping. Therefore early in the morning the body of the deceased was found at the bank of a pond which caused me to wonder how he got there. The teeth are removed from up and lower teeth as well in the mouth.”
