Members of the Aweil East Legislative Assembly on Wednesday elected Santo Deng Deng as assembly speaker, replacing Akoon Diing Angok who was removed from the position following mounting tensions between the two arms of the state government.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, several state lawmakers said they decided to make changes because the state governor and the speaker were not cooperative, which caused tensions and restrained working relations between the two arms of the state government at the expense of service delivery.
The former speaker is a relative and one of the staunch supporters of South Sudan’s ousted army chief Gen. Paul Malong Awan.
