At least thirty unauthorized roadblocks in South Sudan’s Aweil East State have been cleared on Friday between Wanyjok and Majok Yithiou, according to Aweil East Minister of Information Ayuel Yai Deng.

Yai said that the governor ordered for the removal of these unauthorized roadblocks after he received complaints from traders that they pay money to multiples illegal checkpoints between Wanyjok and Majok Yithiou.

He said the only two recognized revenue collection points that remain are Majok Yithiou and Warawar while Wanyjok junction checkpoint will remain operational for security reason.

“These illegal tax collectors are from all departments of security. You can get those of traffic police having two checkpoints and the same to those of CID. We remain with Warawar and Majok and at the same time Wanyjok roundabout is also included but not for taxation it is just for security reason to check,” Ayuel explained.

Yai warned that anyone who tries to set up these prevented roadblocks will be caught and severely punish as there will be a regular supervision body to be set up by the government.

Separately, he said the community of Majok Yithiou met with the governor and reported shortage of medicines in their clinics, lack of network communication in the area as well as lacks of education for their children.
