The government of Aweil East State says it stands behind President Salva Kiir Mayardit in rejecting deployment of more foreign forces in South Sudan as proposed by the East African bloc IGAD.

Minister of Information for Aweil East State Ayuel Yai Deng in a press statement issued on Friday said the government and citizens of Aweil East have rejected such decisions.

“The governor of Aweil East State would like to congratulate General Salva Kiir Mayardit, the president of the Republic of South Sudan and the entire cabinet of the Transitional Government of National Unity for restoring peace after clashes between SPLA and SPLA-IO forces in Juba. Indeed it is high time that the people of the Republic of South Sudan embrace peace for the benefit of the nation and her people,” Ayuel said.

“Furthermore the government and its citizenry of Aweil East State reject in strongest terms the UN Security Council plan to send foreign troops to our country. We stand behind our president in rejecting this suspicious agenda.

The UN and IGAD have said the move would help protect civilians and stabilize the country.
