The governor of Aweil East State Deng Deng Akuei has described the security situation in the area as normal, saying that people had no reason to worry.

“The security situation is normal. The security organs are working together with our army and they are constantly working to pacify any threat, whether internally or externally by developing strategies and come out with operational plans and working together with other authorities, especially local community leaders,” said Governor Akuei on Monday.

The top state official further said he stopped going to Juba where he was invited by the top leadership because of recent security developments at border areas with Sudan, saying armed groups tried to infiltrate into the area but government troops managed to contain their activities.

“What happened at Malek Gumel was magnified on the social media but on the ground everything is normal. There are elements at the border that were trying to infiltrate into our border but they were contained and they have run back to where they came from”, he explained.

Governor Deng said the armed group on the border was carrying out attacks on civilians coming to the country from the Sudanese territory or people trying to cross to Sudan.
