Aweil East state governor , Deng Deng Akuei has raised concern over increasing rate of insecurity allegedly caused by Sudanese herders in the northern part of the state.

Aweil East is one of the states which came into existence after President Kiir issued a controversial ‘Establishment Order’ in October 2015.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Governor Deng Deng claimed members of the Misseriya Arab tribe are causing insecurity in the northern part of the state.

He further said the Misseriya tribesmen have been attacking Dinka Malual farmers, fishermen and hunters from January until this month.

“Most of the attacks carried out by them were targeting agricultural fields, in the farm of Yel Deng Nguel, they killed four people,” said Deng.

“And the other ambushes laid by them have forced people to stop hunting and fishing in the area,”he added.

However, the state official noted that the wave of insecurity and incidents of killings in the area since January, will be addressed in accordance with the signed peace agreement between the two tribes.

The governor pointed out that some criminal activities are being carried out by anti-peace elements between the communities that are living in the border areas.

Radio Tamazuj could not reach Misseriyia tribal leaders to comment on Deng’s claim.
