The government of Aweil East is mourning the sudden death of Baac County commissioner Deng Dut Aliel, after his sudden death last Sunday, an official said.

Aweil East acting minister of information and communication, Yak Malong Akech, told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that Dut died at the Mathar clinic in Aweil town at 8:30 pm.

Malong revealed that the commissioner had traveled to Aweil State to welcome his governor who was expected to arrive last Monday.

“In actual sense, it is something very, very horrible and sorrowful. It was Sunday evening when Hon. Deng Dut Alier left Wanyjok town to Aweil town.  At that time we were expecting our governor to come by Monday, yesterday, that was the purpose he went there,” he said.

Dr. Aleu Poith Akot, the managing director of Mathar Clinic in Aweil town also confirmed the death saying the commissioner suffered a heart attack shortly after he was rushed to the clinic.

“He died of a heart attack. He had a history of hypertension and it went very high after some issues he was going through, so he suffered a heart attack. He died after about five to seven minutes of being brought here,” the doctor said.

Minister Malong eulogized the late as a ‘great public servant who served with diligence before and after the independence of South Sudan’. He added that the state is observing three days of mourning in honor of the fallen leader.
