Communities of the proposed Aweil East State have donated assorted food items and money worth 1 million South Sudan Pounds to conflict-affected people in Raja, a top state official said.

Aweil East Governor Deng Deng Akuei told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that about 22 heads of cattle, over 400 assorted food items and 500,000 South Sudan Pounds were raised through contributions and sent to Raja.

The state official pointed out that the contribution shows their solidarity with the people of Raja who were displaced after the town was attacked in June.

“We know that this contribution may not be enough but this is just a way to stand and support your brothers and sisters with whom you are in the same, but slightly different situation” said Deng.

“The situation can never be compared, I know  the people of Aweil East are also going through difficulties of high consumer prices at local markets, but their conditions are not the same like those of our brothers and sisters in Raja who lost everything they had when it came under attack” he added.

The government called on the unity government in Juba to work for peace and development in South Sudan.“Working together will not only promote unity, reconciliation and healing, but it will also promote proper delivery of services to the people of South Sudan “he said.

Aweil East State is one of the states which came into existence after President Salva Kiir issued a controversial ‘Establishment Order’ in October 2015 to divide up South Sudan and create 28 states.
