The Aweil East chamber of commerce has re-opened its offices after a dispute over its leadership, but results of an inticipated investigation have been delayed.Earlier this month, protests broke out in Aweil after Deng Garang Deng was appointed chairperson of the chamber. Members of the chamber and local traders were arrested after they blocked Deng from taking office, and say that Anuai Mou Akoon should remain as chairperson.
There have been no results from an investigation into the incident, Deng Makol Athian, the finance minister of former Aweil East County said, but the group has decided to re-open the chamber to continue services.
The committee has reportedly found it difficult to find a solution. One official said that the committee has proposed that Akoon be appointed head of the Aweil East Traders affairs, and Deng remain as the chairperson of the chamber.
