The Deputy Mayor of Aweil in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr al Ghazal state, has been suspended along with two civil servents in the state’s education ministry on orders from the acting state Secretary General Clemenet Manyuat.
Wol Mathok Diing, Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance, was suspended on charges of being politically active and spreading false rumors against the government.
Wol challenged the order, saying the secretary general has no power to suspend Constitutional post holders.
“The reasons of our suspension are not convincing,” he told Radio Miraya. “Yesterday I returned the paper and I said that the secretary general cannot suspend me because he is civil servant and I am a constitutional post holder. The acting governor is the right person to suspend me; nobody else. In the evening I was surprised by the forces surrounding my house and they asked me to handover the car.”
The civil servants – Garang Wol Kon and Gabriel Bol Dut – have also disputed their suspension.
