Aweil authorities detain 2 for murder

Local authorities in Aweil North County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have arrested two suspects in connection with the death of a 30-year-old-man, Alich Garang, who was beaten by a rival suitor in Ariath Payam.

William Deng Mou, the Aweil North County Executive Director, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that Garang was killed when a group of youth was rivaling over a girl during a local dance earlier this month.

The deceased was beaten badly and admitted to Aweil Civil Hospital, but unfortunately passed away.

According to Mou, the accused who are detained and undergoing investigations at Ariath police station are Anei Deng Deng and Wol Anei Deng who are aged 35 and 36 years of age.

“The case is that of the murder of Alich Garang who is 30 years old. This person died after people fought at a dance place, they beat him until he was taken to the hospital from where he died,” Deng Mou said. “It seems that they might have been rivaling over a certain girl. Two suspects were arrested and are now in jail.’’

Major Aturjong Dau, a police officer in Aweil North County’s Ariath Payam police station said the two accused are currently in detention and a case of murder has been preferred against them. According to the police, the suspects were supposed to appear in court on the 23rd November 2020 but the trial was rescheduled to a future date.

Aweil Civil Hospital management confirmed that the patient died about four days ago, saying that he had been admitted twice at the hospital.
