Flooding in Awan Pajook county has caused local officials to appeal to the state government and NGO’s for support.
Awan Pajook county commissioner in Gogrial State Peter Pakak expressed his concern of the health of hundreds of people whose homes have been completely flooded and are now living in water.
“The whole county is flooded and people are now in water so I appealed to the government and NGOS to help me with two motor boats so that one can be used to transport patients to the higher grounds because there are reports of increase of malaria and diarrhoea. Health facilities are full with sick patients and I will use one to visit my people living in water” Pakak explained.
Gogrial state Minister of Health Solomon Anguei Mayuot said 10 people have died of malaria while thousands cases have been recorded in health facilities between January and July this year. He urged everyone to sleep under mosquito nets to prevent the disease.
He said that the Ministry of Health sent in malarial drugs and thanked WHO for the help to transport them to the state.
