The authorities in Jonglei State have launched an investigation into a deadly clash between the Pathuyith and Angakuei clans that resulted in four fatalities in Baidit Payam in Bor County on Monday.
Maj. Gen. John Baak, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Jonglei State, confirmed that both clans lost two members in the clashes.
“When the information reached the police, forces were immediately deployed to the scene and we were able to control the situation,” he reported.
The confrontation occurred in a fishing area, but the reasons behind the clash remain unclear. Gen. Baak said four suspects had been apprehended and called for calm among the conflicting clans as investigations continue.
“We have made four arrests in connection with the clash and continue to seek answers about the underlying reasons for the fighting,” he added.
Gen. Baak said police are working to restore peace and order in the area as they delve deeper into the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
