Authorities in Wau State distribute presidential tractors to counties

Authorities in South Sudan’s proposed Wau State have distributed the tractors donated by South Sudan’s president to the eight counties for cultivation.

State Minister of Agriculture James Joseph said during the distribution of the tractors to the commissioners on Monday that the tractors are being distributed to boost the agricultural production during next dry season.

He added that people should encourage agriculture in the state counties to fight hunger and reduce prices of goods.

Meanwhile, the county commissioners complained that there are challenges that face the use of the tractors including fuel and spare parts.

President Kiir procured the tractors outside of normal government procurement procedures. Radio Tamazuj reported last year that the finance ministry was bypassed in the deal to procure the tractors from a Sudanese businessman.
