Local authorities in Raja County of South Sudan’s Western Bahr el Ghazal State say they plan to boost agriculture in the area, which they say has been doing well.
Commissioner of Raja County James Benjamin told Radio Tamazuj that the agricultural season was very successful this year which led to the stability in the area.
He said more than five trucks loaded with agricultural products leave Raja for Wau and Northern Bahr el Ghazal every day.
He added that they cannot control the price of agricultural products in the markets due to what he called “middlemen” and the high demand for the food products.
“The middlemen buy each malwa of corn from the farmer at 25 SSP to sell in Raja market at 40 SSP,” Benjamin said.
The commissioner promised to plan for construction of a new market for agricultural products to help bring down prices in the next agricultural season.
