Authorities in Eastern Lakes recover 150 stolen cattle from Western Lakes

Local authorities in South Sudan’s Eastern Lakes State said that they have recovered over 150 stolen cattle from suspected cattle raiders and arrested men whom they believe to have been involved in the raiding of cattle from neighbouring Western Lakes State.

Local authorities in South Sudan’s Eastern Lakes State said that they have recovered over 150 stolen cattle from suspected cattle raiders and arrested men whom they believe to have been involved in the raiding of cattle from neighbouring Western Lakes State.

Yirol County Commissioner Tong Koryom told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that they managed to recover about 150 stolen cattle from Western Lakes, saying they plan to hand over the raided cattle to their owners.

“We are doing this because we want to implement the resolutions of the peace conference, the other sides have not yet implemented it, but on outside, we have implemented the resolutions,” said Koryom.

The local official emphasised the need to respect the peace conference held between the two states over the past two weeks.

Tong stressed that tough penalties should be implemented against anyone who violates the peace agreement signed between the people of greater Lakes states.
