Authorities are calling on local leaders from Apuk and Aguok communities in Warrap to hand over criminals who want to instigate conflict between the two communities.

Abraham Gum Makuac, governor of Gogrial State, one of three controversial successor governments to Warrap State, repeated his call on Sunday at St. Joseph Catholic Church following a report of clashes in one of the villages at the shared border between Apuk and Aguok on Saturday night.

There are no causlties reported in the latest incident but it has raised fears and some residents already fled their homes for safety leaving behind their belongings including unharvested farms.

“This is not a problem between Apuk and Aguok but it is the problem of individuals or criminals and I don’t want people to translate it is not an issue between these two communities and I want you avoid untrue statements from people but take what the government tells you,” Gum said.

The government has yesterday dispatched deputy governor Santino Akot Abiem and State Police Commissioner Major General John Akot Maluth to go and calm down the tension.

Last month, the government has admitted 11 people were killed on both sides. No arrests have been made but local chiefs and commissioners have been instructed to arrest the perpetrators.
