The African Union has told the Abyei Joint Oversight Committe (AJOC) to resume its regular meetings.
In a press statement, AJOC co-chair for Sudan Al Khair Al Fahim Al Faki said he received a letter from the African Union on continuation of the joint meetings.
He said that he then briefed Sudan’s First Vice President Bakri Hassan Saleh on development matters, humanitarian situation, food gap and flooding in Abyei area, and the FVP ordered the continution of meetings.
“So, H.E the first vice president gave me a go ahead with the ordinary meetings of the joint mechanism on Abyei according to the decision taken by the African Union,” Al Fahim said.
Al Fahim also accused his southern counterpart of suspending the regular meetings of AJOC in which he claimed the administrative and security arrangements signed in June 2011 would have been implemented.
