AU official says Khartoum agreed to participate in Addis Ababa consultative meeting

The African Union Liaison Office in Sudan announced Monday that the Sudanese government, Darfur armed movement, SPLM-North, and National Umma Party agreed meet from 16-18 March.

The Strategic Consultative Meeting will be organized by the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) and the parties will discuss the challenges to peace in the country, according to the head of AU Liaison Office in Khartoum Ambassador Mohammed Khan said in statement to Sudan’s Media Center.

Mohammed added that the Sudanese government agreed to participate in the meetings by sending two delegations, one led by Ibrahim Mahmoud and the other one led by Amin Hassan Omer.

Khan pointed out that all parties have agreed to participate in the meeting. The ambassador said he expects the Head of African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) to travel to Khartoum for more consultations with the parties.
