AU mediators brief German foreign minister on Sudan talks

The German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier received on Monday members of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP), which mediates peace talks between the Sudanese government and rebels.

The German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier received on Monday members of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP), which mediates peace talks between the Sudanese government and rebels.

Former South African Presidedent Thabo Mbeki, who heads AUHIP, left peace talks in Addis Ababa to brief the German minister. He was accompanied by former Nigerian President Abdul Abubakar, another AUHIP member.  

In a press release, the German Foreign Ministry disclosed, “The focus of the discussion will be on the mediation efforts of the two former presidents who work on behalf of the African Union for peace and stability in Sudan and South Sudan.”
