Thabo Mbeki, former President of South Africa and chief mediator of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) announced that he will hold a meeting with Sudanese armed movements in mid-August to consult on the National Dialogue initiative.
In a news conference in Khartoum, Mbeki noted that his meeting with the Khartoum government discussed the National Dialogue, and the peace process in the Two Areas and Darfur region.
He further said they also touched on relations and borders between Sudan and South Sudan. The AU mediator confirmed that two ministers of defense in the two Sudans will meet in mid-August to implement a security agreement and demilitarized buffer zone for the sake of stability between the two countries.
Mbeki added that President Bashir stressed that the meeting with the armed movements should lead to a permanent ceasefire only. He confirmed that his panel will determined the final outlook of the national dialogue after meeting all the stakeholders.
