AU High Representative to visit Yei tomorrow

The African Union’s High Representative to South Sudan, Alpha Oumar Konare, is scheduled to visit Yei River State on a fact finding mission on Monday, a local official said.

The African Union’s High Representative to South Sudan, Alpha Oumar Konare, is scheduled to visit Yei River State on a fact finding mission on Monday, a local official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, Stephen Ladu, Yei Minister of Information, said the African Union Representative would arrive in Yei on Monday, saying Konare’s visit aims at assessing the security situation in an attempt to solve the ongoing conflict in the state.

He pointed out that Konare is scheduled to hold meetings with top government officials and representatives of youth, elders, chiefs, women and the civil society organizations in the state.

Konare, who is former president of Mali, is expected to present a report on the security situation in South Sudan in an upcoming meeting of the UN Security Council in New York.
