AU delegation meets UNISFA leadership in Abyei

A delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) arrived in the contested Abyei Area yesterday.

The visiting African delegation was scheduled to meet both the Ngok Dinka and the Misseriya leaders. Multiple local sources confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that the meeting aims at assessing the situation following a unilateral referendum in Abyei.

A correspondent of Radio Tamazuj reported that the visiting delegation embarked on a lengthy meeting with the United Nations Interim Security Forces (UNISFA) stationed in the area.

Initially the AU delegation’s flight to Abyei was postponed due to alleged security reasons. In a communiqué issued in October, the AU had accused the Khartoum government of hindering their visit to the Abyei region.
