Local authorities in Baliet County, Upper Nile state, reported that an attack by unknown assailants on the village of Del-Ayuel on Saturday resulted in one person killed and another injured.
Baliet County borders Panyikang, Malakal and Fashoda Counties to the west; Manyo and Melut Counties to the north; Maban, Longuchok and Nasser Counties to the east; and Jonglei State, Ulang and Nyirol Counties to the south.
Martin Monykwer, the commissioner of Baliet County, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that four individuals attacked the village at 8:00 PM on Saturday, killing one person and injuring another before fleeing.
“The injured person was shot in both arms. The right arm is broken, and the bullet passed through the left hand,” Commissioner Monykwer said.
Commissioner Monykwer indicated that preliminary information suggests the attackers came from Nyirol County in Jonglei State. “If no one is arrested, we cannot conclude and say it is so and so,” Monykwer said.
He added that a coordination process is underway between the authorities in Nyirol and Baliet counties to arrest the suspects, whom he described as criminals, and bring them to justice.
The commissioner confirmed that the area is stable following the incident.
The commissioner of Nyirol County could not immediately be reached for comment.
