Attack by cattle raiders in Warrap kills 6

Five citizens and a policeman were killed and 4 others injured in Turalei area of Warrap state as a result of an attack by an armed cattle raiders last Sunday. Deputy Governor of Warrap State Akec Tong Aleu told Radio Tamazuj from Kwajok yesterday that a group of armed militias crossed from Unity state and stole nearly 1000 head of cattle in Turalei area last Sunday afternoon. “In fact the incident occurred on 24 March where criminals consisting of about two platoons raided cattle in the side of Turalei. So some police and army forces who are in the area tried to recapture these cattle. The fighting started at 1:00 p.m. up to 10:00 p.m. at night until they managed to recapture some of the raided cattle from the raiders who came from Unity State,” said the deputy governor. Aleu confirmed that culprits were monitored and pursued by the state’s organized forces along with some native citizens who entered into clashes with the offenders. The engagement resulted in the deaths of five civilians and one policeman in addition to injuries to four other civilians. Some cattle were also injured or killed by the gunfire. The deputy governor pointed out that the situation is now normal and under control.
