Atem Garang, the chairman of the SPLM parliamentary caucus who resigned from his position, said he would revoke his resignation as a legislator after his constituents refused to accept his decision to quit.

Atem Garang has recently tendered his resignation from his position as chief whip of the parliament and MP after a disagreement with the leadership of the national parliament and legislators over demands to improve MPs’ emoluments.

Atem argued that allowances of parliamentarians cannot be improved under the current economic crisis in the country.

Atem told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that he would withdraw his resignation in response to the decision of his constituents.

The lawmaker further said he rejects increment of MPs’ salaries to $3000 while citizens are starving across the country.

“If we want to raise our salaries, we should also improve the salaries of workers and employees across the country,” he said.

He pointed out that the SPLM party is still discussing his resignation from the position of the SPLM parliamentary caucus.
