At least three hundred children have been abandoned by their parents in the Majok Yiith-Thiou region of Aweil East State, according to a report seen by Radio Tamazuj.
The report was from the Islamic State Council, and said that the children’s parents reportedly fled to Sudan.
More than three hundred children have been abandoned and are seeking refuge in the Majok Yiith-Thiou main Mosque, Anyar Madut Akech, the Northern Bahr el Ghazal Islamic Council Secretary General said in an interview.
According to Akech, the Social Department and UNICEF visited the children last week and found they needed assistance. Akech called for support from charities, and blamed the civil war for causing families to disown their children.
