At least 12 killed, 13 wounded in Unity State cattle raid

Authorities of Mayom County in Unity State say 12 people were killed and 13 others sustained injuries during a cattle raid early Wednesday.

According to the Executive Director of Mayom County, Gadet Gany Madut, a group of armed men allegedly from Warrap State today morning attacked Ria Payam in his county killing six children, four women, and two men in the attack.

“The attack took place at around 1 Am. In this attack, the people killed were mostly children and women. The total number of the people killed in this attack is 12, last night was 10 but this morning two died, bringing the total number of people who died to 12 and 13 wounded."

Gany added that the attackers made away with over 200 cattle from his county.

He called on victims of the attack to restrain from possible revenge and let authorities from the neighboring states handle the matter.

Authorities of Warrap state, on the other hand, said they are aware of the attack but could not confirm if the attackers were from their side.

“These people say for sure that the attackers are from Warrap state but we are still not aware. It is something we are still investigating,” Akol Thony is the secretary-general of the defunct Gogrial State told Radio Tamazuj.
