Authorities in Western Bahr el Ghazal have arrested some people they accuse of planning to set fire to one of the markets in Wau.

State Information Minister Alfred Derik Uyai told the independent Eye Radio in Juba that saboteurs attempting to destabilize the state were responsible for the incident.

“There was an attempt, some people wanted to burn the market. But the security was alert and they were caught red-handed. This will be investigated,” said the minister.

“You know, these times there are a lot of people who want to make sabotage,” he told the radio station. “(In spite) that this part of the state is very calm and nice and peaceful, there are people who are not happy, they want to create any havoc and sabotage.”
