Army vehicle ambushed in south-west Kordofan

An army vehicle traveling in the western part of South Kordofan was ambushed on Monday, the Sudan Revolutionary Front has announced. The ambush on the road between Muglad and Babanusa left dead 11 army troops.

A spokesman of the Sudan Liberation Army (Minawi) in the western section of South Kordofan, Salim Abu Garun, told Radio Tamazuj that their forces set up an ambush for an army vehicle on the main road between Babanusa and Muglad.

The truck was carrying small arms, food supplies, and ammunition. Our forces killed all of the soldiers in it,” he said.

Abu Garun added that two officers were among the dead: Lt-Col. Seifeldin Mohamed Ahmed and Major Sirajaldin Osman Mohamed.

Radio Tamazuj was not able to contact the Sudan Armed Forces for comment on the news and could not independently verify the event.

Update 23 Aug. 2012: The spokesman of the Sudan Armed Forces, Col. Al-Sawarmi Khalid Saad, said on Wednesday that no clashes occurred with Darfur rebels during the month of Ramadan and Eid holiday, denying the above claims by SLA-MM, Sudan Tribune reports.
