Army says 4 soldiers arrested for nighttime shooting in Juba

South Sudan’s army (SPLA) says four soldiers and a woman have been arrested in connection with a shooting on Tuesday night in New Site suburb of Juba.

South Sudan’s army (SPLA) says four soldiers and a woman have been arrested in connection with a shooting on Tuesday night in New Site suburb of Juba.

The army spokesperson, Colonel Philip Aguer, says the shooting started when a drunken soldier set his hut on fire following a quarrel with his wife.

As quoted by Eye Radio, an FM station in Juba, Aguer said the drunken soldier fired bullets randomly into the air, scaring people in the neighborhood: “After smelling the smoke he started shooting into the air and the wife ran away.”

“Then some of the drunken soldiers who are in the same area of New Site who were guarding the SPLA stores started responding to that shooting.”

According to the army spokesman, 11 armed men were also arrested on Monday, among them five soldiers, after another nighttime shooting incident.
