Forces of the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) claim to have defeated elements of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) on Tuesday near Umm Berimbita and Khordeleb in South Kordofan.

The clash took place not far from Abu Karshola, a town en route to North Kordofan that has been bitterly contested since a rebel offensive last month.

The deputy head of the rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), Mohamed Al Beel Issa Zayyed, said that as a result of the clash the rebels have defeated a SAF formation, captured some government soldiers and commandeered some military vehicles. The exact details of the rebel haul are still being assessed, he said.

“The remaining government troops fled to Umm Berimbita and Khordeleb,” Zayyed said. He assured that the rebels did not attack or rob citizens during the engagement: “We are against the National Congress Party. Our objective is to topple the Khartoum regime, and hand Omar Al Bashir over to the ICC.”
