A top army officer was killed during a gun fight between security officers and cattle rustlers in Eastern Barnaam County in Western Lakes State on Monday, a local official said.

A top army officer was killed during a gun fight between security officers and cattle rustlers in Eastern Barnaam County in Western Lakes State on Monday, a local official said.

Shadrak Bol, information minister of Western Lakes state, told Radio Tamazuj today that Col. Makuer Makuei was killed as the officers tasked with the disarmament exercise attempted to recover stolen cattle in the area.

The state minister said the attackers are believed to have come from neighboring areas.
