At least 76 heads of cattle were stolen, and one cattle trader wounded by armed youth between the Abiriu and Mayath areas of Cueibet County of Lakes State.

The incident occurred at 4 pm on Wednesday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the secretary-general of the defunct Gok State Zeckariah Mamer Thokgor said cattle traders bought 500 cattle from Tonj and were heading towards Rumbek when they fell in the ambush.

In the process, he says, 76 heads of cattle were stolen, five cattle killed, and one trader wounded allegedly by the Gok youth. 

"We have dispatched security forces to follow the raiders and recover 76 cattle and bring perpetrators who carried out attacked and raided cattle to book for investigation," said Mamer. 

Mamer further pointed out that 419 heads of cattle were rescued by security forces.
