Johnson Omot, a member of the armed opposition and the governor of Fashoda state from the rebel side has denied that General Johnson Olony has defected to Taban Deng Gai.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, he said Olony and his forces are fighting along with the armed opposition under the leadership of Riek Machar, pointing that they are committed to the implementation of the peace agreement in letter and spirit and have no connection with Taban Deng Gai.

Omot accused some elements he did not mention of trying to split the armed opposition.

He also accused Lam Akol who rebelled against the government recently of trying to control the armed opposition, calling on him to join the rebel movement under the leadership of Riek Machar.

Lam Akol belongs to the same tribe as Olony – the Shilluk – but he has thus far declined to work under Riek Machar.
