Unidentified gunmen on Sunday shot and killed the only anesthesiologist at the Buram Civil Hospital which is located 80 kilometers south of the South Darfur capital city of Nyala.

An anesthesiologist is a medical doctor who specializes in administering anesthesia, the medical treatment that keeps patients from feeling pain during procedures or surgery. Anesthesiologists take care of inpatients before, during, and after your surgery.

Dr. Abdulaziz Fadl Al-Nabi was at his home when the assailants fired a hail of bullets at him killing him instantly.

Ezzedine Dahab, a relative of the deceased medic, expressed shock at the senseless murder because Dr. Fadl was the only anesthesiologist at Buram Civil Hospital. He described his killing as a devastating blow to the hospital.

“The late was very committed to his work and we have lost a very important person,” he told Radio Tamazuj.

Dahab noted that there was a spike in murders and other crimes due to insecurity, indicating that South Darfur State needs community efforts to contain such problems.

“There is a need to protect professionals who are rendering services to humanity,” Dahab stated.

He called for the formation of community committees to maintain security and to ensure the safety of those serving society and urged the authorities to bring the doctor’s killers to book.
