Sources within the Darfur Regional Government said a convoy of goods vehicles from Kosti in White Nile State was attacked by armed men in the Koma area east of Al Fasher in North Darfur.
An eyewitness said that a group of three armed people stopped one of the trucks at gunpoint to loot it but the Joint Forces arrived and opened fire on them
“One of the gunmen was killed and two escaped,” the eyewitness said. “At the entrance to the city of Koma, the convoy was exposed to gunfire from an armed group before they exchanged fire with the Joint Forces who intervened.”
The goods vehicles were carrying several relief items including food and medicines.
The joint forces warned that the interception and looting of goods vehicles would be dealt with decisively.
Previously, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) demanded to inspect the convoys of goods trucks arriving in the city of El Fasher due to suspicion that they could be ferrying weapons and equipment belonging to the Sudanese army.
According to Darfur 24, an agreement was made between the Joint Force, the Committee of Elders of North Darfur, and the RSF for the latter to inspect the trucks coming from Kosti at the entrance to the city of El Fasher.
“It was agreed that the RSF should bear the costs of unloading and re-shipping the goods,” a source is quoted as saying.
