A meeting of the Identity Committee, one of six committees of Sudan’s National Dialogue was abruptly adjoined following a verbal argument on Monday, according to a Khartoum newspaper.
The dispute involved the chairman of the committee and some members. Sources told Al Jareeda newspaper that some participants accused the Committee Chairman Professor Omar Saleh of not allowing them to express their views fully at the meeting, prompting them to label him a dictator.
The sources noted that Professor Omar Saleh differed with participant Ali Mahdi, an actor, who was added to the list of participating ‘national figures’ recently. The chairman reportedly refused to give him a chance to speak, considering him as an observer only.
For his part, Ali Mahdi insisted that he was not an observer, stressing his name appeared among 20 national figures who have been added to 50 national figures selected before.
The sources stated that one of the dissidents tried to apologize to the committee’s chairman, but he refused to accept.
