A driver working for the African Resource Corporation (ARC) Limited which is constructing the Juba-Bahr el Ghazal Highway, last week intentionally rammed into and killed a site manager identified as Besbele Tesfaya Lesese and his deputy, Daniel Amana in Lakes State.
According to local officials, the incident occurred Thursday morning in Rumbek East County’s Akot Payam.
The police spokesperson in Lakes State, Elijah Mabor Makuac, told Radio Tamazuj over the weekend that the two ARC officials were intentionally crushed and killed using a company vehicle while supervising the construction of the road.
“It was very unfortunate and the accident happened in Akot in Rumbek East County when two senior officials of ARC Construction Company were killed by one of their drivers deliberately,” he said.
“The deputy manager died on the spot and the manager died later after he was evacuated to Rumbek State Hospital with a plan of being taken to Juba for further medical management.”
According to Mabor, the information the police got indicates that the driver killed the two officials deliberately.
“It was reported that he (driver) killed these two officials intentionally but was targeting the deputy manager identified as Daniel Amana only. According to the information, the driver quarreled with Amana sometime back when they were playing ludo,” he said. “The two deceased came vehicle and parked by the road where they were working and this driver rammed into them while they were standing in front of their car to kill the deputy manager.” He ended up killing both of them.”
Mabor said the killer driver has been apprehended and is now in çustody in Rumbek East County where he confessed that wanted to kill the deputy manager, Daniel Amana only.
According to Mabor, the incident was not a traffic accident but a premeditated murder case. He said the dead bodies were transported to Juba from where they would be flown back to Eritrea.
He condemned the killings and said the perpetrator had no reason to resort to criminality and should have opened a case if he had a problem with his boss.
