The family of Ibrahim Al Maz who has reportedly been in detention in Kober prison in Khartoum since before the independence of South Sudan has appealed through Radio Tamazuj to the Khartoum authorities to release him from detention.

The appeal comes at a time when the South Sudanese president Salva Kiir is visited Khartoum this week to discuss the outstanding issues as well as normalisation of relations between Sudan and South Sudan.

Ibtisam Salim, the detainee’s nephew, requested the Sudanese authorities to release his uncle and subsequently deport him to South Sudan. “The detention of Al Maz has affected the whole family, therefore we appeal for his immediate release as long as the relations between the two countries have improved” the relative said.
