Angry youths lynched a man suspected of stabbing to death a 27-year-old medical worker identified as Victor Lomor, in Ngauro, Budi County in Eastern Equatoria State on Sunday.
The lynch victim, who was alleged to have been drunk, was said to have been threatening some women before the medical worker intervened, but ended up being knifed to death.
According to local officials, the action angered local youths who descended on the suspect with crude weapons, killing him on the spot before cutting the body into pieces.
The Budi County Hospital Administrator, Augustine Lokang, told Radio Tamazuj that the incident occurred on Sunday morning, but was reported the following day due to lack of communications network in the area.
He said the stabbed medical worker had tried to escape the attack but fell down.
“This incident happened on Sunday morning at Ngauro. Our colleague was stabbed to death by a 17-year-old villager, as he was coming to the health center,” he explained.
Budi County Paramount Chief Lino Atiol confirmed the incident, and expressed shock, saying it had left a big gap in the community’s health service.
Atiol said several warnings had been issued against people walking around with dangerous weapons.

Eastern Equatoria lawmaker representing SPLM-IO Kokol Michael condemned the incident and called on the local communities to refrain from excessive consumption of alcohol.
He urged the government and local leaders to formulate by-laws constraining locals from excessive consumption illicit liquor.
