Anger in Kuajok after civilian executed by firing squad

The Kuac Ayok community that hosts the Warrap State capital Kuajok, petitioned the government to investigate the “unlawful death penalty of Lual Ngong” by a firing squad this month.

Ngong was executed in accordance with the Green Book bylaw signed by Governor Kuol Muor Muor. He was accused of murdering children from the Aguok section, hence the death penalty, according to the law.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj from Friday, Kuac Ayok paramount chief Joesph Kuol Amet said the government should properly investigate the death sentence otherwise the community would cease being part of Gogrial West County.

“The Kuac community is very sorry for what happened to Apuk County, but the Aguok community have killed our people in cool blood. The Apuk killed 20 of our people and about 694 houses were burned between 2022 and 2024. The same Aguok have burnt about 700 houses since August last year and killed our people. Lual Ngong was accused of murdering children and was killed by the government without proper investigations,” he said.

Amet wants the government to prosecute the people who killed Ngong or the community will cease being part of Gogrial County.

He called on the state government to relieve the Gogrial West Commissioner of his duties, as he was believed to have been part of the people murdering the members of the community.

The Warrap State assembly confirmed receipt of the Kuac petition.

Amet said they had presented a second petition about their kin killed by the government as per the Green Book. He disclosed that the acting governor questioned why he took up the matter, not knowing that he is a community representative.

He said he had retained a copy of petition and will call the Members of Parliament from the Kuec community to discuss it.

Meanwhile, the Warrap Government spokesperson, William Wol, said there was nothing to be discussed about a law, which was endorsed by the entire state.

“How can the law be biased yet the Paranmount Chief, Joseph Kuol Amet, signed it?” he posed.
