The ousted secretary-general of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement tells Radio Tamazuj that hours before the start of clashes in Juba yesterday he was denied entry to the National Liberation Council meeting at which he was reportedly ousted from the party leadership.

Amum blames the president of the country and chairman of the party for having strayed from the SPLM vision.

The SPLM figure was not present at the meeting, but other sources confirmed that he was removed after presentation of a report by the investigation committee formed to investigate him, headed by James Wani Igga.

By order of the chairman he had already been suspended from his functions as of last July, and ordered not to speak to the press.

Amum commented that what happened yesterday at the NLC meeting “was a clear deviation from SPLM vision and direction.”

“We are calling for a return to the SPLM platform,” he added. “I was denied to attend the meeting.”

“The entire process was a total violation of the SPLM constitution,” says Pa’gan.

Although clashes have subsided somewhat since this morning, the situation in Juba is still highly volatile. “I call on the people of South Sudan to stay united and to avoid divisions on tribal grounds,” said Amum.
