Primary schools in Amongpiny Payam of Lakes State's Rumbek Central County this week received a donation of exercise books and blackboards from the Amongpiny emergency support committee for education and development.

In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, the secretary-general of the emergency support committee for education and development in Amongpiny Payam Samuel Mabor Maker said that they delivered 1,729 exercise books and four blackboards on Monday.

“We went to Amongpiny Payam on Monday morning and we were warmly received by the Parent-Teacher Association and we did the distribution of exercise books and blackboards to the pupils in four primary schools which include Mabor, Meen, Amuol and Amongpiny Primary Schools," Mabor said.

He added that the schools still lack classrooms and adequate blackboards.

"All the learners receive their lessons under the trees. There are no classrooms and they are being interrupted by heavy rains," Mabor noted while appealing to people of goodwill and the government to support the construction of classrooms for the pupils.

"Those neighboring communities from Panyijiar County of Unity State came and attacked the people in Amongpiny and Paloch Payam looting cattle and destroyed properties. This is where the community called for support from their elders and intellectuals because there was no food, and pupils lack scholastic materials. Some of the pupils share one exercise book in the class. This is what motivated us to form an emergency committee that comprised of seven members," he explained.

The headteacher of Amongpiny Primary School Deng Manyiel confirmed the receipt of the school materials.

“Yes, we have received the contribution of exercise books made by the team. We have 1,729 exercise books and four blackboards and have been distributed to four primary schools in Amongpiny payam," he said.

Manyiel further appealed to education partners, the state and national governments, and sons and daughters abroad to support the construction of classrooms for the pupils saying they are often disrupted by weather conditions mostly heavy rains.

Amongpiny Payam is a remote payam in Rumbek Central County and has four primary schools namely; Mabor, Meen, Amuol, Amongpiny, and Cueiadukan.
