The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) has launched a radio studio for the Media Development Institute (MDI) in Juba on Friday.

The new radio studio will be used for training journalists including freelancers and students. The project is supported by UNESCO as part of its program to develop media in the country.

Speaking during the launching of the new radio studio at AMDISS today, Director General of the National Ministry of Information, Paul Jacob said his government cannot develop everything in the country without its development partners.

“With the launching of this radio studio today, it will help a lot because we need people to be professional,” he said.

The official further said the new studio will minimize the cost of sending journalists abroad for training because all the facility and equipment are now in the country.

Meanwhile, representative of the Norwegian People's Aid (NPA), Jacob Atem said the new radio facility will help in addressing the issue of unskilled journalists.

“Today at least the Media Development Institute is getting to the reality. NPA will continue their support,” Atem said.

The Media Development Institute (MDI) was established last year.
