The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) has accepted the resignation of Alfred Taban Logune, the chairperson of the media body following his political appointment.

Veteran journalist Alfred Taban has recently decided to quit journalism after his appointment by President Kiir as a Member of Parliament in the national parliament.

Taban was offered the seat to represent his people in Kajo-keji by the opposition faction loyal to the incumbent First Vice President Taban Deng Gai.

The executive board of AMDISS convened an extraordinary meeting on Friday which accepted the resignation and assigned the deputy chairperson, Mary Ajith Goch, to act as the leader until the next general assembly meeting.

The association commended and appreciated the tremendous contributions of Alfred Taban during his service as head and founding member of the association.

Alfred, the association said, championed campaigns for freedom of expression and media in South Sudan, the values for which it was founded.  The association pledged to continue working to its vision of independent, sustainable, representative and democratic association that advances the freedom of expression and press and professional journalism.

It thanked all stakeholders, donors, diplomatic missions and for supporting its work and standing in solidarity to promote freedom of expression and media in the world’s young country.
