Two people were killed and several others injured in a road ambush at Malithtor area of Bor South County in Jonglei State, police say.
Jonglei State acting police commissioner Chol Deng Achiek told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the incident happened on Thursday morning when an armed group shot at a passenger vehicle.
“The car left Bor at 8 am, it had 12 passengers and its driver and it fell under ambush in Malithtor killing 2 people, 4 others were injured and 6 people survived after they ran to the bushes. When the reinforcement arrived they found them in the bushes and they were rescued,” he said.
Achiek added that those injured including the driver are receiving treatment at Bor Hospital.
The police official further noted that police cannot respond to such attacks saying they are constrained by lack of vehicles.
“Mobility is a problem for the police, we do not have cars to maybe respond to security concerns and escort passenger vehicles, we do not have,” he added.
Achiek said they only rely on army posts along the road for security updates on the road.
He called on all those travelling along the Juba-Bor road to consult with the state government so that they can be escorted or given updates of the security situation there. He urged citizens especially the youth to cooperate with the police in reporting any suspicious activity.
